Seeking Transparency through the Complexities of a Corn Allergy.

The List– Corn Derivatives

Listed below is a thorough compilation of ingredients that can be derived from corn.  Of the several lists that I had come across on the internet, this seems to be the most extensive.  (I believe it was originally posted by Cornallergens.com).

Not everything on an ingredient label that is listed here will always be derived from corn.  This is the tricky part, it means it CAN contain or be derived from corn.  The (*) items are the ingredients that are more often not corn based, but one can’t be certain from simply reading the label.  (Although citric acid is marked with an (*), I have definitely noticed adverse reaction.  Err on the side of caution and watch closely for triggers).

It is for this reason, that there needs to be more transparency on our food labels when it comes to corn.  It is so grossly and intolerably hidden.  If you are attempting to avoid corn and its derivatives, cutting these ingredients out of your diet is a good place to start.

What’s in a LABEL?

What’s in a LABEL?

There is so much more to a ‘label’ than understanding a list of ingredients contained in a package. SO MUCH! A label, similar to a diagnosis, can also be given to a person to define a set of symptoms. It is affixed on to something to describe ‘what is inside’. A label is a belief…

Oh my, my, my. This corn thing is really a tricky subject to digest… no pun intended. No wonder. To Understand Corn is to Know GMO!

To Understand Corn is to Know GMO!

Ultimately, my goal in creating this blog, is to increase awareness around the vast use of corn in our food, beauty products and environmental products; and even more importantly, have it become more commonly recognized as an allergen. Less than a year ago, when Autumn had a visit with an allergist, he explained to me…

Uncertainty and Confusion

Uncertainty and Confusion

With regard to shedding a little light on the corn ingredients and derivatives list, I will start by saying it is very difficult to gain complete understanding due to the lack of transparency. Just knowing it will be confusing and uncertain at best, may take a little frustration out of the process. Whether you are…
