Seeking Transparency through the Complexities of a Corn Allergy.

Corn and Politics??

Corn and Politics??

Oh my, my, my.

This corn thing is really a tricky subject to digest… no pun intended. No wonder. No wonder navigating through this allergy situation where there is zero transparency has felt so cumbersome and twisted. The ripple effects of the overuse of CORN is being seen far and wide.

I am curious about the stance of the corn issue in politics. In the beginning, I was so focused on my daughters health, it didn’t really dawn on me that there was such a political undercurrent that was at play. I quickly started to develop some suspicions as such subjects as GMO and Monsanto were impossible to avoid in doing any research.

And when I see data like this,

the cynical side of me can’t help but think that somewhere behind the closed political doors, somebody has someone bent over a corn stalk in the back 40.

It is really mind boggling to fathom the depths that may possibly contain the root of this corn issue.

It’s a health issue. It’s a farm issue. It’s an individual issue. It’s a political issue. It’s an environmental issue.

To the general public, it is way off of the radar. To the medical professionals, it isn’t given much thought. To those who consume food, we blindly eat it. For those who drive cars, with each fill up, we naively accept that it is our tank. For those who bathe, use makeup, take pills…….. IT IS EVERYWHERE!!

No wonder! No wonder there is a corporate-political entanglement behind this situation. Big Agriculture is big business. GMO’s are the epitome of a failed science project; one that is making corporations millions. These corporations are well situated (for the time being), as the public remains naive, while the lobbyists and politicians are clearly a tight knit bunch.

Science has a valid argument on the dangers of genetic engineering (GE). They are not giving up the fight. In fact, the heat is being turned up, as the the exposure of these dangers and concerns are coming into the public eye. Even some of Monsanto’s own stock holders are demanding answers. There is a definite rift being made. Yet, undoubtably, there is still a lot of work that is required to clean this mess up!

In the midst of this tangled, twisted, dark, secretive maze, my hope and vision remains…. While this situation continues to come into light, while GE rides the waves of public intolerance, while our lands continue to be foraged, while the ethanol debate continues; CORN IS AN ALLERGEN. It is real. At the very least, along with 8 other allergens, it deserves clear recognition on food labels.

As Autumn mentioned to me one day earlier on in this process, “Why don’t we just go up to Town Hall, and tell them to put corn on the label?”

For you, Kid, I’m gonna give it all I’ve got!

What’s in a LABEL?

What’s in a LABEL?

There is so much more to a ‘label’ than understanding a list of ingredients contained in a package. SO MUCH! A label, similar to a diagnosis, can also be given to a person to define a set of symptoms. It is affixed on to something to describe ‘what is inside’. A label is a belief…

To Understand Corn is to Know GMO!

To Understand Corn is to Know GMO!

Ultimately, my goal in creating this blog, is to increase awareness around the vast use of corn in our food, beauty products and environmental products; and even more importantly, have it become more commonly recognized as an allergen. Less than a year ago, when Autumn had a visit with an allergist, he explained to me…

Uncertainty and Confusion

Uncertainty and Confusion

With regard to shedding a little light on the corn ingredients and derivatives list, I will start by saying it is very difficult to gain complete understanding due to the lack of transparency. Just knowing it will be confusing and uncertain at best, may take a little frustration out of the process. Whether you are…

As this is just the beginning of sorting through and compiling this information in a relatively organized format, where lies the best starting point is yet to be determined. Yesterday was Christmas.
